ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN ACCORDING TO 3IDEE
3IDEE is a boat design studio that has recently opened in the heart of the city
of Genoa. Architects Roberto Angel and Mario Rabbò, both graduated from
the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Genoa, are the two principals
of this new business. They have been working in the sector of boat design for a
few years now. Their love for boats has led to a market placing as designers and
architects of refined super-yachts, often collaborating with Italian boatyards
of undisputed worth such as FP Yachts, I.S.A. and Rodriquez and with engineer
Sergio Cutolo's Hydro-Tec office.
The core of the projects of 3IDEE is the
careful consideration of the client's requests and needs, with particular
attention paid to internal liveability, rational division of space and
association of furnishing items. The care put into these aspects of "boat
living" is what really makes each 3IDEE creation unique. The two designers in
fact see a special link between the world of architecture and that of boats,
with the latter regarded as true floating homes that must be furnished as such.
This philosophy has led them to christen the 3IDEE studio "Architecture and Design".
A mention must go to some of the projects from the two architects'
drawing boards, in the modern day guise of skilfully used CAD programmes: for
F.P. Yachts the studio designed a series of 80, 104 and 110 foot classic ships,
highlighting the concepts of space and furnishing so dear to the two designers,
as well as graceful modern lines. The list continues to include large motor-
yachts, such as "Ideale 114", the 163', the 62m. and the 65m. For the open range
and similar boats, 3IDEE put together projects for a 13-metre Fast Commuter
"Lèon", a 72' in both open and fly versions, the 92' Open designed for
F.P. Yachts and "Sea Cube 78". One of their latest projects is a 31-metre open
able to do 40 knots maximum speed. The aggressive lines of this yacht in no way
hide the aim of the two architects to concentrate design efforts on a deckhouse
featuring large expanses of glass, ensuring naturally well-lit interiors and
consequent better quality of living inside the boat.
