FERNANDO DE ALMEIDA and the 110' Fast Expedition Yacht
Fernando de Almeida Yacht Design is a design studio in San Paolo, Brazil. The
designers working for the structure are coordinated by the designer Fernando
de Almeida, who in July 2003 set this business up with the clear intention of
providing support for boatyards building yachts measuring from 30 to 150' in
length. This Brazilian studio works on a daily basis on the development of
interior and exterior designs for both sailing and motor yachts.
At the moment
the Fernando de Almeida Yacht Design studio is following construction of a
Southern Wind 72, being built in South Africa, a Riostar 55, a very unusual
boat equipped with large areas of glass, a 70' trawler and the 110' Fast
Expedition Yacht underway at the Riostar yard. As far as projects yet to be
completed are concerned, in other words waiting to be transformed into sailing
realities, the Brazilian studio is working on three craft, a 36', a 43' and a
75' catamaran. Fernando de Almeida worked for over ten years in European
boatyards where he had an active part in important projects such as the Wally
80 and 143, Southern Wind 80 and 78 and the well-known Nauta 84 "My Song".
Furthermore, his pencil was kept busy for over a year in Miami at the Bertram
Yacht yard. This time round we are interested in showing our readers the
project for the 110' Fast Expedition, a semi-displacing motoryacht built for a
Brazilian owner, who has requested a high level of performance, such as a
maximum speed of 25 knots and a compromise between open-air and covered
spaces, considering the yacht will normally be used in Angra dos Reis, which
enjoys a mild climate all year round.
The designers' task was therefore to create large spaces outside while at the
same time trying not to lose out on interior volume, in order to guarantee the
owner of this 110' the possibility of undertaking long, comfortable cruises.
The lower deck houses the guest cabins and those for the crew, while the
owner's suite is to be found in the bow area of the main deck that has a
centrally placed roomy saloon, astern of which there is another living area
sheltered by the extension of the upper deck. On the upper deck we have the
bridge, a spacious relaxation area with sofas, tables, sunbeds and platform
for the tender or a small helicopter. The sun deck houses the external
wheelhouse and an area for sunbathing.
