SOUTHERN WIND 100'

"Southern Wind 100'" is the new flagship of Southern Wind Shipyard, a South African builder which, in the last 10 years, has specialised in using composite material to build super-yachts. For the "Southern Wind 100'", the shipyard turned to two famous design studios, Nauta Design and Farr Yacht Design, the former for the exterior/interior and the latter for the waterlines, the sail set and the appendices. The yacht has been designed for high- performance with a small crew, meaning that the South African shipyard and the Farr Yacht Design team decided on a displacement of only 58,000 kg. They were able to achieve this thanks to new construction techniques involving the infusion of light materials such as carbon and Kevlar and to the choice of a carbon mast, which can handle an impressive sailing surface of 424 m2. The shipyard offers, with a same hull, two different deck configurations: a flush deck for more sporty owners and a deck with deckhouse, intended primarily for long-range cruising. The latter version is definitely more comfortable under demanding sailing conditions, thanks to the superstructure which protects the guest cockpit from bad weather and to the spacious upper saloon, a warm and welcoming area with a view of the sea. The deck has a second cockpit astern, where we find twin helms and all of the navigation instrumentation. The interior is particularly impressive, a specific choice of Italian style made by Nauta Design, which has created a layout that is both elegant and functional. The upper saloon has a dinette to port and a relaxation area to starboard and divides the forward night area from the aft night area, thus ensuring complete privacy for the owner, guests and crew members. The latter's quarters are astern and consist of three cabins (for a total of five beds), two baths, a dining area and galley. The guest cabins, consisting of two cabins with twin beds and private baths, are laid out between the central area and the aft part of the upper saloon, where we find a VIP suite. The remaining aft area has been set aside for the spacious owner's cabin, which has a relaxation area and en suite bath.
