Lusben, part of the Azimut-Benetti Group since 2000, was set up in
1956 as a company specialised in refits and ship repairs. Today it
offers an across the board range of solutions and services in the
assistance segment, from mooring to the management of documents
and problems of an administrative nature. Based in Viareggio, a
Tuscan city where some of the most important world level shipyards
are headquartered, Lusben owns a 30.000 square metre waterfront
area equipped with sheds and structures for maintenance and repair
of 20-65 metre motoryachts. Vessel handling is carried out with a
600 tonne travel lift, a 30 tonne crane and two trolleys of 250
and 80 tonnes capacity respectively. With these systems of
slipping, launching and handling Lusben transports vessels from
the basin to the sheds and vice versa, or where necessary to the
climate controlled paint workshop where any product whatsoever can
be applied and where selected experts can intervene on yachts up
to 60 metres. The refit and repair services offered on the
premises include anticorrosion and anti-osmosis treatments,
carpentry and metalwork, mechanical intervention on engines and
transmissions carried out by authorised firms, repair and creation
of hydraulic, oleodynamic and electrical systems, repair of
electronic systems, installation of new apparatus and modification
or renewal of interior furnishings. As for documentation
management and technical supervision, on the owner's behalf Lusben
can deal with all the bureaucratic business connected with
Classification and Flag Bodies, such as periodic renewals of Class
certificates or changes of flag. Moreover, side by side with the
services listed above, Lusben can handle all the bureaucratic,
administrative and shipyard-related operations for rendering a
vessel suitable for charter, thus relieving the owner of
burdensome duties. In the same context of supplying global forms
of assistance Lusben offers consultancy for enrolling vessels on
the international or national register, also taking care of all
the phases leading to the issue and validation of sailing
documents and certificates. Owners seeking on-board personnel can
apply to Lubsen which runs a service of crew selection, training
and management, offering contractual consultancy to guarantee a
satisfactory working relationship for both parties. For the entire
duration of the work contract the Viareggio yard manages the crew,
assuring assistance for medical checkups and certificates. Lubsen
offers owners a whole, really wide range of services which
includes booking airline tickets, hotels, restaurants and tickets
for cultural events, as well as car hire, with or without
chauffeur, and much else. On request Lusben can supply security
personnel such as bodyguards and escorts. Returning to the
bureaucratic field, Lusben can handle all maritime and customs
documentation related to vessel arrival and departure, also with
regard to the unloading or loading of material. On behalf of other
shipyards Lusben draws up safety plans for work carried out on
board, offering consultancy and assistance with regard to safety
and hygiene in the workplace. Lusben also has a private port,
extended in 2004, with moorings for about 40 vessels between 20
and 65 metres LOA. It is a modern port complete with all the
services offered by the best marinas, including the classic
columns supplying drinking water and electricity at 220 and 380 V,
as well as telephone sockets and internet connections. Moreover,
the whole port area is covered by a wireless technology internet
connection service. Incoming and outgoing vessels are supervised
by the mooring service and by an electrician who deals with hook-
up and disconnection of the current. Ashore, a system of video
surveillance, with armed personnel also at night, together with a
24 hour all year round porter's lodge, guarantee safety for the
moored vessels. On request this service can be personalised for
vessels that remain unsupervised during their stay. The reception
office can supply weather forecasts and organise boat cleaning
services. You can also have your vessel transferred to another
port or request the service of divers. The company supplies
electric vehicles to owners and crews for transport of luggage or
goods, as well as bicycles for visits to the town or to the
shopping centre inside the port itself, where there's also a bar
and a self service restaurant. To complete the services ashore
there are bathrooms, a laundry, a meeting room, storerooms that
can be rented for storage of equipment or goods, a cash-point and
daily garbage collection.
